Join Sandglass Theater and Happenstance Theater for a hands-on workshop exploring the art of comic performance through physical theater, clowning, and presence. The workshop takes place at 17 Kimball Hill, Putney, VT 05346, hosted at the Sandglass Theater space in Putney, Vermont.

This immersive session dives into physical techniques that support comedic performance, including exercises in stillness, reaction, focus, clarity of gesture, illusion, physical characterization, status work in duo and trio scenes, and the role of the audience in shaping performance. Participants will also explore foundational clowning techniques.

Instructor Mark draws on his training with Étienne Decroux and Marcel Marceau, while Sabrina brings experience from her work with Dody DiSanto in the Lecoq pedagogy and nearly two decades as a theatrical clown. Together, their approaches blend precise physical technique with deeper explorations of honesty, presence, and accessibility on stage.

The workshop is designed as a “laboratory” space—energetic, playful, and hands-on—where performers can dig into what it truly means to take the stage and play with confidence and clarity.
