The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Friday, October 12, 2018
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Fort at No. 4
267 Springfield Rd
Charlestown, NH

River Theater Company and the recreated eighteenth-century Fort at No. 4 museum are teaming up to present an adaptation of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” Fridays through Sundays, October 12 through 14 plus October 19 through 21, at 7:00 pm each day.

Fort No. 4 in Charlestown NH is a living history museum surrounded by fields and woods, with the Connecticut River on its western edge. After dark it has a foreboding feel, isolated and shadowed by the stockade. During this production the Fort will become something supernatural… strange noises, distant hoofbeats, fleeting visions of light along the water, ghostly figures.

Instead of sitting in a chair in front of a stage, the audience moves from location to location, at times surrounded by the action. Things are lit solely by candlelight, and the audience will be guided by actors with lanterns. Good walking shoes and a willingness to move around quite a bit are a must.

The play tells the classic tale of the skeptical out-of-town school teacher Ichabod Crane and the legend behind the Headless Horseman and other eerie tales.

The cast of more than 25 stray from the written script (which also includes a bit of singing and even country dancing) and interact with 21st-century visitors to Sleepy Hollow – speaking to the audience, sitting next to them, treating them as part of their spooky world.

Tickets and information are available through the Fort at www.fortat4.org
