East African jazz singer and songwriter Somi makes her Keene debut with her blend of jazz and rhythm and blues on Thursday October 12, at 7:30 pm in the Alumni Recital Hall of Redfern Arts Center at Keene State College.

Somi has been praised by The New York Times, and her album The Lagos Music Salon reached number one on Billboard’s jazz chart.

Tickets range from $25 to $22 and $5 for KSC students. A $2 ticket discount coupon is available in local newspapers and must be presented at the box office when purchasing a ticket. For tickets, call the Redfern Box Office at 603-358-2168 or order online at keene.edu/arts/redfern

The following Creative Connections outreach activities surrounding Somi’s concert at Keene State College are free, open to the public, and take place at the Redfern Arts Center:

● Wednesday, October 11, 2 p.m., Alumni Recital Hall: Lecture/Demonstration with Somi, who will talk about her intersection of creative process, anthropological song making, and the role of vocalist as storyteller, focusing on how our personal journeys can inform the stories we tell through song. The talk includes a brief performance with Somi’s pianist Toru Dodo and a question and answer session.

● Thursday, October 12, 11 a.m., Alumni Recital Hall: Artist Conversation with Somi and special guests about the relationships between music, personal geographies, immigration, cultural identity, and space. Moderated by Dr. Darrell Hucks, Associate Professor of Education at Keene State.

● Thursday, October 12, Main Lobby: Post-Show Meet and Greet and Reception with Somi.
