Letters Through Bars – April 2017

Write letters to incarcerated friends, loved ones, and other pen pals. Don’t have someone to write to? The event organizers will help you find someone who’s looking for a pen-pal. They also provide envelopes, stamps, and other writing supplies.

This month, attendees can write postcards to Mariposa, co-writer of Mariposa & the Saint, a play about Mariposa’s experiences in solitary confinement in a CA prison. Mariposa is still in solitary today and welcomes correspondence.

Live in MA? Join Prisoners’ Legal Services work to stop solitary confinement: http://www.plsma.org/current-issues/stop-solitary/

Live in VT? Check out Vermonters for Criminal Justice Reform to challenge mass incarceration in our state: https://www.vermontersforcriminaljusticereform.org/learn-more/campaigns-projects

Please come fragrance-free to Root events. For more information about Letters Through Bars, contact: melmotel@gmail.com
