Susan Brearey: artist reception

Friday, December 3, 2021
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Next Stage
15 Kimball Hill Rd
Putney, VT

Next Stage Arts in Putney will host an opening reception for an exhibition of paintings by artist Susan Brearey on Friday, December 3rd, from 4 to 6 pm.

Susan Brearey is known for her depiction of animals. In her paintings, primal, totemic images take the place of the photorealistic details found in some other works of wildlife art. Animals become primeval shapes, rudimentary and almost featureless, set against abstract surfaces. Brearey’s evocative approach was inspired in large part by the cave paintings at Lascaux, France.

Susan Brearey received her MFA in painting & printmaking in l994 from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI and her BA in French Literature and Studio Art at The Evergreen State College, Olympia, WA in l988. Her work has been widely exhibited in the United States, UK, Europe and Asia.

Masks required while inside the building.
