Bread & Puppet Theater (Next Stage Bandwagon)

Wednesday, August 25, 2021
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
The Grammar School
69 Hickory Ridge Rd S
Putney, VT

The Bandwagon Summer Series is an outdoor, socially-distanced, diverse performance series running through the middle of October in various ballfields, farms, and parks.

Seating pods are limited to a maximum of 6 friends or family. Face masks must be worn from the car to the pod, and anytime outside the pod. Maintain a distance of at least six feet from other patrons. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. While dancing, please remain in the pod. Adhere to exit instructions after the concert, and pack out any trash.

The Bread and Puppet Theater was founded in 1963 by Peter Schumann on New York City’s Lower East Side. Complex theater pieces followed, in which sculpture, music, dance and language were equal partners. The puppets grew bigger and bigger. Many performances were done in the street. During the Vietnam War, Bread and puppet staged block-long processions and pageants involving hundreds of people.

In 1974 Bread and Puppet moved to a farm in Glover in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.

The traveling puppet shows range from tightly composed theater pieces presented by members of the company, to extensive outdoor pageants which require the participation of many volunteers.

Bread and Puppet is one of the oldest, nonprofit, political theatre companies in the country.
